Right now, I love sharing wisdom texts from Native American peoples with you, endowed with the greatest intelligence: that of the heart and mind. Here’s a seasonal text, which describes “the white people” as seen by Native Americans of old.
The Text
Look, my brothers, spring has come; the Earth has received the Sun’s embrace, and we will soon see the fruits of this love.
Every seed awakens, and likewise, every animal comes to life. It is to this mysterious power that we also owe our existence; that is why we grant our neighbors, even our animal neighbors, the same right as ourselves to inhabit this land. Read more below!
Yet, listen to me, all of you, we are now dealing with another race—small and weak when our fathers first met them, but today great and arrogant. Strangely enough, they have the idea of cultivating the soil, and the love of possession is a disease among them.
These people have established many rules that the rich can break but not the poor. They levy taxes on the poor and the weak to support the rich who rule. They claim our common mother, the Earth, for their own use and barricade themselves against their neighbors; they disfigure her with their buildings and their refuse. This nation is like a torrent of melting snow that overflows its bed and destroys everything in its path.
What This Text Inspires in Me
The more I step back from our society and our way of life, the more I reconnect to the whole, and the more I share this point of view. Let’s respect each other, respect the planet, thank her for everything she gives us, and seek balance for our health and that of Mother Earth.
